Dr. Kristen Nelson grew up on a farm in Watertown, Minnesota where she developed a deep love for animals.  She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine.  She was top in her class in Surgery.  Kris then completed a small-animal internship at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City.  She is a member of the American Association of Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians, as well as the American Veterinary Medical Association and Arizona Veterinary Medical Association.

In addition to owning Arizona Skies Animal Hospital in Cave Creek, Kris is the author of Coated With Fur: A Vetís Life.  It chronicles her triumphs and trials as a young woman owning her first animal hospital.  The second book in the series, Coated With Fur: A Blind Catís Love, was published in 2014.  It stars a cat named Radar who was born without eyes.  In addition, Genny, Ivan, Butch and Bongo return from the first book.  Dr. Nelson is widely quoted in the media.  Her credits include USA TODAY, The Los Angeles Times, Ladiesí Home Journal, plus numerous radio and television interviews.  Information on a variety of veterinary topics may be found at;  Kris and her husband share their home with rescued cats, birds and dogs.
