Ashlea Deahl
With the exception of a brief stint writing for The Boston Globe and Cape
Cod Times in Massachusetts, Ashlea has lived in the Phoenix area for 20
years. She graduated from ASU with a degree in journalism, after which she
landed a job as an assistant editor at McMurry Publishing in Phoenix. When
the managing editor of Phoenix magazine decided not to return from her
maternity leave, Ashlea jumped at the chance to work for the publication,
which she had interned for in college and continued to freelance for
since. Just a year and a half later, opportunity struck again when the
editor-in-chief position opened. Another year and a half later, Ashlea is
still happily in that position, where she says she intends to stay until
either they kick her out or there’s nothing left to write about in
Phoenix. If she weren’t in journalism, Ashlea says she would pursue her
other love – animals – and would go back to school to study zoology.
Ashlea lives in the Coronado historic district with two cats, a feisty
Terrier and a grumpy but lovable lab/retriever.
