Carol A. Poore is president and CEO of Phoenix-based Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS (formerly Body Positive), the leading nonprofit HIV/AIDS research, clinical trial and education resource center in the Southwest. As president and CEO of Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, Poore leads the organization’s staff of clinical trial and naturopathic medical doctors, researchers, educators, and a community outreach team including more than 300 volunteers. Her skills in strategic planning, outreach, organizational management and fund raising enable her to grow the organization and help the agency partner with the region’s biomedical research and community-based organizations.

From 2002 to 2007, Poore served as vice provost of public affairs at Arizona State University’s West campus, overseeing a department responsible for constituent and public relations, donor and fundraising development, marketing, student recruitment, special events and alumni relations. As a senior administrator for the nation’s largest public university, she provided leadership for four colleges and a campus that doubled in size, growing from 4,500 to more than 9,000 students during her tenure. She led an internal branding team project leading to articulation of ASU’s brand essence and a consistent marketing approach throughout the university’s more than 30 colleges and four campuses.

From 1997 to 2002, Poore served as director of communication for New West Energy, a separate affiliate of Salt River Project (SRP), the nation's third-largest public power electric and water utility based in Phoenix, Ariz. A member of the three-person business launch team, Poore developed the marketing and communication strategies for New West Energy’s historical start-up leading to $500 million in sales within the first three years. During her 15-year tenure at SRP, she served appointments as senior strategic planning analyst, executive speechwriter, and in a variety of corporate communication and public affairs positions.

Poore’s community leadership includes serving on the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Athena Powerlink Governing Board, the Dean’s Advisory Council for ASU’s School of Global Management and Leadership, Arrowhead Community Bank Board of Directors, and the Fiesta Bowl Committee. She served on the board of trustees of the International Association of Business Communicators’ Research Foundation, and is a past Valley Leadership board president. Poore earned her master’s degree in business (MBA) from Arizona State University as a member of the Executive MBA Program, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production, Broadcasting and Journalism from ASU. She currently is completing her Ph.D. in Public Administration at ASU. Her book, “Building Your Career Portfolio,” was published in 2001 by The Career Press and is available in English, Korean and German languages worldwide.
